First reported by the Paulick Report, Three-Time American Champion Filly & Mare Royal Delta has died earlier this week due to foaling complications. She was carrying a live foal by Galileo, who has survived. Royal Delta was trained by William Mott and captured the Black-Eyed Susan, Alabama, and her first Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic under the twin spires of Churchill Downs, enroute to being Champion Three-Year Old Filly. She would take the Delaware Handicap, Beldame, and Personal Ensign before travelling across the country to Santa Anita for a second Ladies’ Classic, and Champion Older Mare. As a five-year old, she took her second Delaware Handicap, before passing the torch off to Beholder in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
