2015 Opening Day at Saratoga

Some of the best racing in American starts this Friday at Saratoga.  The Spa hosts amazing graded stakes races throughout the meet and very competitive fields.  There are many things to watch this summer at Saratoga.  First, American Pharoah in the Travers.  If all goes well, the Triple Crown winner will make his start after the Haskell at the Spa.  Second, Cocked and Loaded.  This son of Colonel John currently tops my 2yo rankings and will be starting in the Sanford Stakes.  Third, Wise Dan.  Currently, Wise Dan is slated to make his next start at Saratoga, possibly in the Bernard Baruch.  Fourth, 3yo fillies.  Currently the 3yo filly division is in absolute flux but with the Diana, C.C. American Oaks, Personal Ensign, as well as many other races for fillies, this division could start stepping up and someone can come out of the Spa as the top 3yo filly.  Finally, George Weaver on the turf.  This trainer just doesn’t get enough recognition.  George Weaver is a very good trainer throughout the year, but when it comes to Saratoga, he heats up.  Watch out for Weaver horses on the turf at the Spa.  He doesn’t have a large stable but he hits at a high rate.  Of course, in honor of opening day, here are my opening day top selections:

  • Race 1: 2- Groupthink
  • Race 2: 3- Night Madam
  • Race 3: 1-Dacoma
  • Race 4: 4- Off the Tracks
  • Race 5: 8- Jennys Creek
  • Race 6: 5- Welcoming
  • Race 7: 12- Trophee
  • Race 8: 6-Doc Almon
  • Race 9: 10-Feathered
  • Race 10: 13- Swagner

Good Luck opening day, as well as the whole Saratoga meet.
