Kentucky Derby · Triple Crown

Who’s Your Future Pick?

Ok, as we approach 2012, we are on our way to the Kentucky Derby. We start it all off on New Years Day with the Gulfstream Park Derby, then the first big race at the end of January, the Holy Bull. Holy cow, what a race the will be (no pun intended). Headlined by Hansen, that will sure to be a bi race. Then we have the Risen Star, Fountain of Youth, Tampa Bay Derby, Spiral, Sunland Derby, Florida Derby, Louisiana Derby, Santa Anita Derby, and the Arkansas Derby along the trail. Of course the early favorite is Union Rags at 14-1. But I would look at two horses, Derby probable Sabercat (30-1) and possible competitor Jake Mo (200-1). Say What! You did not just say Jake Mo. Oh yes I did. I like this horse. May not be the best horse in the field but could capitalize if trainer Allen Milligan learns to race him as a late closer (not a deep closer like Ice Box though). I know that will be tough, but it is a good possibility. Now looking at Sabercat, a probable favorite in the Triple Crown races, is going to be a top competitor in the chase. Nice horse, would like to see a more relaxed race from him, but so far so good. With a few really good horses, could this be the year of a Triple Crown winner. Union Rags and Hansen look like they could both take care of the distances easily, from the past year. But can they keep the pace against each other? The pace in the Juvenile was the slowest since 2002, and it was at Churchill with most of the horses that will race in the Derby, baring any surprises. Hansen and Union Rags will contest it wherever they are, but can they hold each other off all 2000 meters. Who knows. Post your picks below in the comments.
